The Uncommon Sensei’s Blogroll and Coaching Resources
Using News & Knowledge to Build Professional Relationships
I ask all of the lawyers I coach to identify (i) their key contacts (current and prospective clients, employers, mentors, and other people of influence), and (ii) the topics of greatest interest (personal and professional) to these people. Together, we use a range of internet tools to determine which reporters and commentators generate or curate the most valuable news, knowledge and opinion in those areas, and the best ways to follow them on a real time basis. (This is almost always via Twitter –channeled through a dashboard like Hootsuite. If you have more spare time–and patience–than I, there are various other alerts and follows, RSS feeds and subscriptions).
I have listed below, with links, a number of my favorite business and law blogs. Some will help you better understand your profession, the business of law, and the challenges you will face in practice. Others will directly inform the work you perform for your business clients, by educating you about the world of commerce in which they live and the industries in which they compete. Some will just make you smarter.
Not included here are the host of invaluable practice-specific blogs (start-ups, IP, healthcare law, biotech/cleantech, privacy, China, private equity/venture capital, etc.) available online, but I would be happy to help you find them.
